WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE LAKE...

2-25-10 The pine interior of new cabin 8 is almost ready for varnish!  Yeah!  Yes I know we have new cabin 1 to finish as well.  Cabin 8 is looking awesome.  Eric has really put in the extra tlc and created an awesome cabin.  It smells so good with all the new wood.

The ice houses are will be off the ice Sunday.  We are looking for an little earlier ice off this year as the ice isn't quite as thick as usual. I will let you know when we see the last of the ice.

2-8-10 Blizzard here!  Everything is closed. The trails are going to be fun but cleaning out the road to the ice houses is going to be a challenge.  3 more weekends of ice fishing then the houses come off for the year.  I'm afraid half of tomorrow will be spent cleaning up snow.

Two of our sons (David and Matthew) worked with Eric this weekend and got the ceilings finished in the new cabins and the attic areas insulated.  Nicholas (goes to NDSU in Fargo) was going to come home this weekend to help as well but turned around and went back due to the slippery roads) His brothers missed his help!  Matt's friend Whitney also came up and helped me sand the logs and clean up after the guys and their construction mess.  The cabins are looking great.  I finished roughing in the plumbing today and at this rate I will be hooking up faucets in no time.  We are planning on taking the kids on a spring break vacation for all the help.  We might get allot of volunteers when they find out that vacations are involved; I know that the kids attitudes really improved.

1-19-10 Ice fishing has been picking up since it warmed up.  The crappies and sunnies are requiring some active jigging to get there attention.  The snowmobile trails are beautiful!  Now if the kids would keep from breaking our sleds maybe I could sneak away from the plumbing long enough to take a ride.

Eric and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and the sweet guy filled the house with flowers.  Just as I was about to complain about the cost he told me he got a great deal.  So I let it go and am feeling pretty special!  Now if I could get him to pick up his dirty socks!

1-9-10 Wow has it been cold.  The warm up is due tomorrow.  The camera is showing all kinds of fish under the ice houses. Only need to get them to bite more.

12-29-09 The ice houses are out and we are driving on the lake.  Andes Tower Hills has all the ski hills in great shape!  Katie was over to the ski hill today and spent the afternoon downhill skiing with college friends.  We are able to offer great ticket rates to our guest again this year.

The snowmobile trails have been groomed and I even went for a ride on Christmas afternoon. (fresh air!)  We are seeing northern, crappies, perch and sunfish in little Mary.
Over Christmas we were lucky to meet 2 Navy families.  The brave souls traveled from Georgia and Washington to have a Minnesota Christmas; Eric and I love that we are able to host families from all over the country and meet such great families.

12-15-09  Very cold out but great ice making weather.  We expect the big ice houses to be able to go out in a couple days.  I'm firing the glass kiln in the studio tonight.  The extra heat is very welcome.  We have had 2 big groups in the studio this week doing ceramics. Thanks to everyone for getting those deposits in on time.  (You know how much I "love" bookwork.  It is easier to do it all at one time.)

12-10-09  The ice is getting thick.  We expect to be able to ice fish this weekend.  Eric has been working on upgrading a couple of the ice houses.  New bells and whistles but no extra cost.  As I write it is 7 below zero; great weather for making ice but too cold for me.  It is an office day today.  I'm having all the fun of restoring data on my pc.  Major crash on a 4 month old pc.  Yes the data was backed up but it still has to be reinstalled and reloaded; yuck!

11-10-09  The warm weather has allowed us to finish off the leaf cleanup.  There is still one tree to drop leaves but the rest have been burned.  Zach thought it was fun to walk through the piles as we raked them; he was soon redirected to another fun activity.  The first PMC (silver playdoh) pieces have been made and fired.  This is going to be a very neat addition to the studio projects.
I saw a few new ideas on the Disney Magic cruise that we took for vacation.  Zach participated in their kid program and I came home with a couple new ideas for next summer.
We are so glad to be home and back to work on projects at the resort.  It was a nice warm short get away but I love it here at the resort!!!!

10-30-09 Ice fishing reservations are starting to come in...we will keep you updated as to the current ice status and the quality of the fishing.  We are planning a new years party family style this year;  I'm going to work on lots of fun ideas for cold weather.

Yes; we are having a lot of fun on vacation!!!!

Fun at Cocoa Beach

10-28-09  The new cabins are all closed in and the interior work is going to begin.  We have had some great help from a cousin, brother in law and our sons.  Thank you!!!

10-4-098 The walls are going up on the new cabin 8.  Cabin 1 is almost closed in; waiting for half the trusses.

9-15-09 The roof came off cabin 1 today.  The walls come down tomorrow morning and the new foundation goes in when the cement truck arrives tomorrow.

Zachary is digging the basement.Bev lending a hand.
8-23-09 The weather is beautiful!  Should I say finally...... Eric and I are having fun working on finalizing the plan for new cabin 8.  We had a bon fire in front of cabin 1 last night.  That is the same fire that Eric and spent time at many years ago getting to know each other.  Kind of hard saying goodbye to old cabin 1.  The redo starts the day after Labor Day.

8-21-09 First Fish!!!! Sunfish'in with Daddy.

8-10-09 Okay this is the life!  Zach finally agreed to float on the water.  After a short while he wouldn't leave the sand bar.  We had an awesome time with our friends from Colorado.  Hopefully we will see them soon.

Yes Jordan you are going to get wet.  Go Joe!

8-7-09 Mary Elmer sent up this picture of the Loon family that we have been watching all summer.  The babies are starting to learn how to dive and swim under water now.  We still see the family every morning and every evening in front of the resort.

Lake Mary's Loons

7-29-09 Cheryl caught this monster on 4 pound line.  The crappies have been biting on the minnows left over from the minnow races.  (Maybe the top prize should be the minnows.)

The new anchors arrived today for the 115hp 24ft pontoon.  We will attempt to not leave these in the bottom of the lake this time.  Tomorrow lava soap goes in the fish cleaning house!!!!!!  (Man soap) Keep the input coming, I love it.

The Loon Lodge (cabin 7) has got even more new decor being added.  I went to art in the park and found some awesome loon photos with babies.  The loon babies that are by the resort daily are getting so big.  The parents are trying to teach the babies to dive for fish.  The are calling out a lot, do you think that the babies are in trouble?
Cheryl's big Northern

7-27-09 The permits for the new projects have come in the mail.  Keep watching for the plans for the new cabins!!!!!!!!  We will have a 5 bedroom cabin for 2010. (The cabin will hold up to 20 people and is over 2200 sq ft.)

7-26-09 Matthew is 24 and chose to spend time celebrating with us at the lake.  We are so glad to have Matt and Whitney here at the lake.  Thanks for all the help this weekend too!  Around here birthday or not if you are home you get put to work; no lack of projects.  Matt, Nick, Collin, Whitney, Eric and I have put in several hours working on our toddler beach.  It is really shaping up now.  Lets hope for some hot weather now.
7Matthew's 24th birthday - wow am I getting old. Can't believe that my oldest son is 24.

7-22-03  Eric and I took the evening off.  (Thank you auntie Holli for watching Zach!)  We went for a supper trail ride at Silver Sage.  We had a blast!  The owners were great and the food was awesome.  Take a look at their web site.  You can ask for a private ride and really get to ride a really great horse.

Great horses! We had a super time at Silver Sage.

7-13-09  We had our first ever outdoor big screen movie.  What a blast!  Thanks Ethan and Kim!!!
Nicholas' big NorthernNicholas caught this monster northern all by himself.  No help from Dad.

7-8-09 What an awesome week at the lake.  Lizzy and Leonard our pet rock friends made an appearance.  They even joined us for smores and a bonfire.  The play equipment got an addition this week!  Eric and I added the main section of a new bridge and a 2 story playhouse.  David was even seen using tools!!!  We made playhouse out of cedar and had a bonfire with the scrap wood.  Wow did that smell good!

When at the resort beware of the walking blowup creatures!

Even more new ceramics have arrived and more fun glass projects.  We have been working on wine bottle stoppers, bracelets, pendants, trivets, window art (sun catchers) and night lights.  The 22kt gold decals and lots of new choices of dicroic glass have added lots more options.

Eric picked me up another pallet of cedar mulch.  6 bags went down today.  The flowers and landscaping are improving slow but sure.

6-23-09 Melissa is officially in New York working at the children's camp.  She used her experience practicing here to get the job.  I had to hire 3 people to replace her.  I'm getting her birthday box ready to mail.

6-19-09  The new glass fusing supplies have arrived.  4 boxes of goodies.  I'm excited to play with the new toys.  I know that D.S. and crew are going to have fun next week.

6-17-09 The walleyes are starting to group up for a really good bite.  All the fishermen seem to be happy.  Thank goodness for the fog this morning; complaining about the weather is always in style.

We have mastered the spiral tie dye.  Okay it is a lot of fun too.  The bracelets, ceramics and glass fusing pieces coming out of the studio haven't been too shabby either.

Showing off the tie dye projectsMinnow Races can be competiveA little friendly teatherball anyone!!!!!!

Michael O. caught a crappie last week bigger than the top of a 5 gallon pail.  That was one big fish.  The Oleson family can catch anything on Lake Mary and make it look easy any time of the year.   He was going to email a picture.  Let's see if he reads this and the picture arrives.  Love you Michael. Michael must have been reading.  Here is the much awaited picture.

Micheal O and a very big crappie!

6-11-09 Lady slippers, the Minnesota state flower, is blooming in the Alexandria area.

Abby's first walleyeThat is one big BASS!

6-3-09 Today we took delivery of the new pontoon.  We decided to upgrade the motor to a 115 hp.  Eric is out right now working on the motor break in.  The walleyes, bass, northern, crappies and sunfish are all biting.  The fish cleaning house has been keeping very busy.  It might be time for me to get out and try my luck soon.

5-29-09 Just picked up 2 new Schwinn Cruiser adult bicycles.  Red and white.  I rode around the yard and remembered the days of my first bicycle that also had coaster brakes.  Good thing they left the banana seat back in the 70's.

5-28-09 Wow what a day! More new furniture arrived, the permit for the swim raft came through so into town I go to pick up the new swim raft, fish fry for the boys from Iowa, (wish you were here too Don H.), and last but not least we also bought a new 24 foot pontoon with a 50 hp Yamaha 4 stroke.  Eric is out fishing right now with the best local guide ever, testing out a hot spot.

5-26-09 All those last minute upgrades are getting finished before everyone arrives on Friday.  #7 just got a new vent system and a new stove today.  Tomorrow cabin 8 gets attacked!  I applied for the permit for a new swimming raft today.  If it is approved we will have a new, large swim raft by the time the water is warm.

5-10-09  What a wonderful mothers day.  I spent all day outside in the flower beds.  The hyacinths are blooming, the daffodils are starting and the some of the tulips are poking out heads.  The dandelions are sure to make an appearance soon too!  Never fear I also am planting the tomato plants so we can all have fresh picked later in the summer.  The first early girl tomato plant went in under Camper Bob's watchful eye; he will be sure to eat the first ripe one and tell us when the rest are ready.  I hope all of you also enjoyed the day!  Happy Mothers Day

5-6-09 The new well with a super upgraded computerized pump is going in today.  Hope you all love the awesome water pressure we are going to have.

Just checked the pressure it is holding steady at 60 pounds and endless quantities!!!! Yeah.  Now we are off to fix the mess in the yard.
